Dental Implants

Implant treatment is completed by placing a titanium screw that takes the place of the missing tooth root into the jawbone, and preparing a custom-made tooth on top of it. How the treatment progresses is planned according to your oral and bone structure.

What is an implant made of?

As you scroll, the three parts of the implant separate: the custom-made crown on top, the connecting abutment and the titanium root placed in the jawbone.

How is the treatment planned?

Planning starts with an examination. The condition of your jawbone, the health of your gums and the position of neighbouring teeth are assessed through a clinical examination and the digital imaging your case requires.

After this assessment, the options available to you, the stages of treatment and its approximate duration are explained clearly. We review your plan together before treatment begins.

Stages of the procedure

Implant treatment is usually completed in two main stages.

  • Surgical stage: the titanium implant root is placed into the jawbone under local anaesthesia.
  • Healing period: we wait for the implant to integrate with the bone. This period differs from person to person and is explained to you individually at the examination.
  • Prosthetic stage: once healing is complete, an impression is taken and the custom-made tooth is placed on the implant.

After treatment

Your check-up appointments are scheduled after treatment. Regular check-ups and oral hygiene are decisive for using the implant without problems for many years.

During check-ups the gum and bone tissue around the implant are assessed, and care recommendations are updated where needed.

Questions about this treatment

Is implant treatment painful?

The surgical stage is carried out under local anaesthesia, so no pain is felt during the procedure. Any sensitivity that may occur afterwards, and how it is managed, is explained to you at the examination.

Can every patient have an implant?

For an implant to be placed, the jawbone and gum tissue need to be suitable. Suitability is assessed after examination and digital imaging; if it is not suitable, alternative options are discussed.
